VW Golf Engine Light – Coolant Bypass Valve Repair

The Problem

This VW Golf came into our Manchester workshop with the engine management light showing on the dashboard. Although an engine light can appear for many different reasons, it’s always worth getting it checked rather than simply resetting the warning and hoping it doesn’t return.

Our Diagnosis

We carried out a diagnostic test to identify the fault and traced the problem to the coolant bypass valve.

After removing the unit for a closer inspection, we discovered that the internal seal appeared to have failed. This had allowed coolant to leak into the electronic components inside the valve.

Unfortunately, the coolant hadn’t stopped there. It had also made its way into the vehicle’s wiring loom, meaning the repair involved more than simply replacing the faulty valve.

The Fix

We repaired the affected wiring to make sure the electrical connections were sound and free from coolant damage. We then fitted a new coolant bypass valve unit and water pump.

Once everything was back together, we checked the system to make sure the fault had been resolved and the vehicle was operating as it should.

The Golf was then ready to go back to its owner, with the cause of the engine warning light properly diagnosed and repaired.
